5 Ways to Overcome the Never-Ending Cycle of Yo-Yo Dieting

Hey y’all Sarah here! So you always see me talking about how I help my clients stop the yo-yo. I’m sure you’re sitting here thinking “that has been a struggle my whole life!” Well I can actually relate! I remember years ago following every fad that was out there in high school; I even tried the grapefruit diet and ate eggs, bacon, salad and grapefruit juice at each meal. That was back in high school, y’all! Then throughout college, if it came out, I tried it.

Finally, I became a registered dietitian and started understanding the science behind the human body and the fact that under consuming calories then leading to an overconsumption would always leave me with a weight cycle.

Can you relate?

Well don’t you worry! I’m here to save the day with a few tips that I share with my clients on how to help stop the yo-yo!

✅ Be patient. It’s actually hard for me to even write that out considering I have always been a very impatient person. I think we all are at certain times in our life! We want things and we want them now!!!

Shedding pounds fast can be super exciting in the first few weeks, but slow and steady weight loss always wins the race for long-term success! This is based on the centers for disease control guidelines. Find what works for you!

This is why I love working with individual clients. With all of the noise on social media and Google, it’s very easy to find a plan that your best friend or a coworker did, try it, and then figure out the plan doesn’t fit you, your specific needs or your even your busy life! Instead of hopping from one fad diet to the next, find a personal eating plan that works for you. If you need help, send me a message here m.me/thesarahhall

✅ Keep a food journal. My clients have amazing success when they start to keep a journal and recognize the food that they’re eating, the balance in their day and then we are able to review together to make improvements! As humans, we are almost designed to graze and eat mindlessly throughout the day for a number of reasons. I suggest logging your food with an app like MyFitnessPal, which allows you to actually see what you’re eating versus what you think you’re eating. It’s very easy to underestimate your actual caloric intake!

✅ Stay strong through plateaus. Weight-loss is rarely continuous and plateaus are very normal! Every 90 days, it’s good to have a formal reassessment of your goals and plan, which is what I do with all of my clients.

✅ Also, keep an upbeat attitude and have positive self talk! You will continue to make healthy choices that are sustainable for the long haul.

✅ Consult a professional. I would love the opportunity to work with you on a customized and one on one nutrition plan! Registered Dietitians are truly the experts and we are trained to help individuals with a specific plan for their lifestyle, goals and needs!
